品牌形象与空间引导系统专家Lance Wyman

      Lance Wyman是Lance Wyman环境图形设计有限公司负责人,该公司于1979年在纽约成立。作为一名对视觉传达充满热爱、经验丰富的工业设计师,Lance Wyman擅长品牌形象和空间引导系统两门学科,为各种活动、企业机构、公共交通及城市创作重要视觉系统。Lance Wyman有限公司以独立或与其它建筑和设计公司合作的形式为客户提供服务。
     Lance Wyman是公共环境品牌形象与空间引导系统方面的专家,曾以帮助清晰界定环境图形领域而受到赞誉。他为1968年墨西哥奥运会设计的图形系统被称为“在环境标识发展上最为成功的设计之一”。他早期的著名作品还包括为墨西哥地铁、华盛顿广场、国家动物园、明尼苏达动物园创作的品牌形象和空间引导系统,其中为明尼苏达动物园所做的创作入选《时代》杂志1981年10项最佳设计之一。


    品牌形象设计需要运用到文字和图标,成功的图标、象形图、符号和标志都是最基本的简单图形,传达了预定信息。Lance Wyman喜爱设计并运用图标,因为无论是在真实还是虚拟世界中,它们都可以超越语言文字带来的障碍,无需翻译。图标应用范围广阔,它可以被设计成为独特的企业标志,也可以被设计成为机场或电脑操作系统中的常用指示标志,它们已成为我们生活中的一部分,并在尽可能做到形式的最简约化和沟通价值上的最优化。

    Lance其它公共图形系统的成功案例包括为华盛顿地铁创作的地图、为加拿大阿尔伯塔省卡尔加里市与埃德蒙顿市和纽约美国国家历史博物馆的人行天桥创作的品牌形象与空间引导系统。最近,他还为众多城市创作了品牌形象与空间引导系统,包括美国底特律、霍伯肯和阿尔伯克基市、美国铁路客运公司高速铁路之宾夕法尼亚站、纽约和韩国首尔LG艺术中心。目前他正在为圣乔治站、长岛渡轮码头和圣达菲市创作空间引导系统。

Lance is the principal of Lance Wyman Ltd., the New York environmental graphic design office established in 1979. As a trained Industrial Designer with a love for visual communication, and a lot of experience, Lance is specialized in two design disciplines that produce important visual systems for events, corporations, institutions, public transportation, and cities: Branding and Wayfinding. He works with clients independently as Lance Wyman Ltd. and as a consultant team member with other architectural and design offices.
Lance is a specialist in branding/wayfinding systems for public environments and is credited with helping to define the field of environmental graphics. His graphic system for the Mexico?68 Olympic games is cited as ?..one of the most successful in the evolution of visual identification.*? His early landmarks also include branding/wayfinding systems for the Mexico City Metro, the Washington Mall, the National Zoo, and the Minnesota Zoo which was selected by Time magazine as one of the ten best designs of 1981 .


Branding utilizes words and/or icons (successful icons, pictograms, symbols, and logos are basically the same thing, simple pictorial forms that communicate an intended message). Lance designs and applies icons because they need no translation, they are images that help cross the maze of language barriers created by words, in both our real and virtual worlds. Icons can be designed to do jobs that range from being unique corporate logos to being common indicators of services in our airports, or in our computer operating systems. They are our daily companions that come in many sizes and they all strive for one important characteristic  to have minimum form and maximum communication value.
Wayfinding is a term that describes the system that puts words, icons, signs, maps and directional devices to work to tell us where we are, where we want to go, and how to get there. Lance recent work has been for cities. An effective wayfinding system adds an important face to a city image. It offers an opportunity to reference its?history, its?culture and other important aspects in a way that is seen and used on a daily basis. It should be a remedy for confusion and clutter and a stimulus for pride, easy mobility and enjoyment. It should be designed as a visual ambassador, a way of saying, elcome, let me help you find your way around and enjoy yourself.?Lance other successful public graphic systems include the maps for the Washington, D.C. Metro, and branding/wayfinding signage for pedestrian skywalks in the cities of Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and the American Museum of Natural History in New York. He has recently completed branding/wayfinding signage systems for the Cities of Detroit, Hoboken and Albuquerque, the Amtrak High Speed Rail facility at Pennsylvania Station, New York, and the LG Arts Center in Seoul, South Korea. Current work includes the wayfinding systems for the St. George Station, Long Island Ferry Terminal and the City of Santa Fe.


Lance has received awards from the American Institute of Graphic Arts, Society for Environmental Graphic Design, Art Directors Club of New York, and the Milan Triennial. His work has been published in the New York Times, and magazines including Life, Time, The Architectural Forum, Progressive Architecture, Graphis, Communication Art, Print, ID, Design, Wallpaper, Eye and Creative Review.
His work has been exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art and the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York, the Center of Industrial Design at the Louvre in Paris, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, and the Poster Museum of Warsaw. He is a Fellow of the Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD), and was founding President of the SEGD Education Foundation. He co-conducted the first 襂nterdisciplinary Environmental Design Seminar?at the University of Cincinnati in 1990 and is teaching at Parsons School of Design in New York since 1973. Wyman was born in Newark, NJ and graduated from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y. with a degree in Industrial Design. He received the 1968 Pratt Institute Alumni Contemporary Achievement Medal.
Lance loves the challenge and reward of starting a new project. The challenge is to enter the unknown with an inquisitive and sensitive mind and see what is there and what is needed, and then to create a unique and effective design solution. The reward is the opportunity to work with different cultures, different cities, different institutions and different people, to create Branding/Wayfinding systems that are clear and simple, compatible and integrated with the environment and supportive of future planning.  It is always a new learning experience.
